The Four Horsemen Hot Pepper Gelato at Cowboy Gelato in Amarillo

You can’t miss the Wall of Shame when you step inside Cowboy Gelato in Amarillo, Texas. Photos line the wall of the “shameful” souls who sucked down nine scoops of gelato in under five minutes. But that’s nothing compared to General Manager Cody Anderson’s latest challenge: The Four Horsemen.

Cowboy Gelato in Amarillo, Texas

Cody has concocted a brilliant blend of cayenne, ghost, habanero, and Trinidad scorpion peppers, with a bit of blood orange and other flavoring, to create his “Four Horsemen” gelato. The challenge is to eat four scoops in five minutes.

We had lunch at Cowboy Gelato and decided to sample the Four Horsemen. Here’s our reaction:

Along with their unique flavors of gelato and sorbet made fresh daily, Cowboy Gelato offers stuffed hamburgers, pork loin sandwiches, BBQ pork sandwiches, many Cowboy favorites, and “the best chicken fingers ever,” according to my son. When you visit Amarillo, don’t miss this cozy spot on historic Route 66.

  1. Originally from Amarillo and I can say that I have tried this. Without question, it was the hottest thing I have ever eaten in my life. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the center of the sun, this gelato was a 12. I think it was tasty? Hard to say, mostly it was just pure heat! I made it through a single bite and that was that.
