Lancaster County, Penn., offers Amish country experiences, old-fashioned steam train rides, and hands-on ice cream making fun. Here are my top picks for a Lancaster getaway.
The past few months have been a whirlwind of travel for me and my family. Colorado, Texas, Pennsylvania and Maryland were just some of the states I covered!
While waiting on the platform at the Strasburg Railroad, I noticed a man running alongside the Pint-Sized Pufferbelly – Strasburg’s 23-minute miniature steam train ride. He was dressed in traditional railroad garb – oiled-up jeans and a blue button-down shirt – and carried a red flag. I watched him, running along with the train, back and forth, again and again. I had to get the scoop.
Attention train enthusiasts! Lancaster County’s Strasburg Railroad and Choo Choo Barn are a must-see in Amish country. The Strasburg Railroad is a relaxing way to see the countryside and learn about the railroad. The Choo Choo Barn is a spectacular 1,700 square foot hand-crafted model train layout. Makes a great day trip or stop on your summer road trip.
Traveling by train, at night, through West Virginia and Kentucky leaves one with very little to see and spotty cell service. I’m entertained, however, by seeing all the positions people sleep in on a train.
